Formation and Concept (2012)
You’ll Melt More! was formed on October 4, 2012, in Tokyo.
The group’s name plays on the Japanese word yurumeru (緩める), meaning “to loosen” or “relax,” combined with the playful exclamation モ!. From the beginning, the group presented itself as an alternative to conventional idol acts. Instead of focusing solely on polished pop music, the project embraced experimental and underground influences.
Producer Taichi Take, who has worked with the group since its formation, explained that he started the project because he felt the idol scene lacked acts influenced by indie rock or new wave, saying that such a group simply “needed to exist.”
The group’s concept has often been summarised with the idea that their music exists to “loosen people’s hearts.”
Musical Style and Identity
You’ll Melt More! is known for blending new wave and post-punk influences with elements of electronic pop and alternative rock.
Reviews often highlight the group’s willingness to cross genre boundaries. For example, their 2014 collaborative album Hako-meru-mo! incorporates influences from 1990s alternative rock, hip-hop, and shoegaze, combining them freely within the framework of idol pop.
Their music typically features energetic arrangements and emotionally direct lyrics. Despite their experimental influences, their songs retain strong melodic structures that keep them accessible to a broad audience.
Music writers have sometimes described them as a “laid-back new wave idol” act. Across different eras of the group, their music has consistently balanced underground experimentation with catchy melodies.
Live performances are also central to their identity. Their concerts are known for their high energy and immersive atmosphere, with members often performing in an expressive and uninhibited style on stage.
Early Growth and Breakthrough (2012–2015)
The group held its first live performance on December 29, 2012.
In July 2014, they released their first full-length album Unforgettable Final Odyssey through SPACE SHOWER MUSIC, which helped establish their musical identity.
In 2015, the group expanded their activities further. In April they held their first nationwide solo tour, with the final show at Akasaka BLITZ selling out with approximately 1,200 attendees.
Later that year they also gained international attention when they performed for three days at the Manga Festival 2015 in Vietnam, marking their first performances outside Japan.
Within Japan they began appearing on larger stages, including Tokyo Idol Festival and Summer Sonic.
At the end of 2015, the group released their second studio album YOU ARE THE WORLD on November 11, 2015, which featured collaborations with several well-known Japanese musicians.
These early years helped establish You’ll Melt More! as a distinctive presence within Japan’s alternative idol scene.
Evolution and Lineup Changes
Like many idol groups, You’ll Melt More! has experienced frequent lineup changes over the years.
The original lineup consisted of Kechon, Icchii, Nonchan, and Yumikon. Icchii left the group in February 2013, followed by Nonchan in September 2013. During this period new members joined, expanding the group to a larger lineup.
Further graduations continued in later years. Yumikon left in 2014, while Mone and Chibo graduated in 2016. Later departures included Ano in 2019 and Younapi in 2020.
In October 2021, founding members Kechon and Chiffon also graduated from the group.
Another lineup change occurred in March 2024, when Matsuri left the group. In May 2024, new members Raki and Makoto joined, bringing the lineup to six members.
Despite these changes, the group’s core identity has remained consistent. Creative freedom, emotional intensity, and a mixture of musical styles continue to define You’ll Melt More!.
Recent Activities and 13th Anniversary (2025)
In 2025, You’ll Melt More! celebrated the 13th anniversary of their formation.
During this period the group released their sixth studio album, 虚無泥棒 (Kyomu Dorobo), in September 2025, featuring fourteen new tracks.
At the same time, they also released their first re-recording mini-album, titled ロクロクビ! (Rokurokubi!), which corresponds to the project ROCK×ROCK=BE.
These releases show the group continuing their experimental approach while maintaining the melodic elements characteristic of idol music.
In interviews around this period, the members emphasised their desire to continue evolving while maintaining a strong connection with their audience and preserving the group’s distinctive identity.
