About Sano Aika

Sano Aika (佐野愛花) is a Japanese idol and member of CUTIE STREET, where she represents the color red. She also has experience as an actress, having worked in stage performances and other entertainment projects before joining the group.

From a young age, Aika was drawn to television and the people who appeared on screen. A major turning point came when she saw actress Hirose Suzu (広瀬すず), who inspired her to think, “I want to become someone like that.” Although she once considered the entertainment world to be out of reach, she continued to admire it while focusing on her studies throughout high school.

Originally, she planned to follow a conventional academic path and enter university, attending cram school and preparing seriously for exams. However, in her third year of high school, she began questioning her future and whether she truly saw herself continuing toward a traditional career. Around the same time, a classmate announced his decision to become a comedian and skip university. Seeing someone her age choose a completely different path made her realize that pursuing her own dreams was also an option.

Shortly after, she made the bold decision to leave her academic path behind and pursue entertainment. She independently searched for an agency, passed an audition, and began her career. Early on, she appeared in an ABEMA reality dating show and trained in acting while focusing mainly on stage work. Although she faced repeated rejections in film and drama auditions, she eventually began to experience success, including passing several auditions in a row.

She later discovered the CUTIE STREET audition and decided to take on the challenge. Although she initially pursued acting, she realized through musical and stage experience that singing and dancing brought her a strong sense of enjoyment. This led her to consider becoming an idol as a natural extension of her performance interests.

The audition camp itself was extremely intense and became a major period of self-reflection. Rather than comparing herself to others, she approached it as 'me vs myself,' identifying her strengths and how to develop them. A major challenge was maintaining her physical and mental health amid sleep deprivation and pressure. She often had to consciously maintain positivity, knowing that allowing her emotions to drop might make recovery difficult.

At the time, she was 23 and had no prior idol experience. She had set a personal deadline of around age 25, after which she planned to leave entertainment if she had not achieved results. Because of this, she placed all her hope on CUTIE STREET. She also recalled advice from her manager, who told her that if she consistently worked in the right direction for five years, opportunities would eventually come, but whether she could seize them depended on her. The audition came exactly at her fifth year in the industry, which she saw as a crucial turning point.

She also felt pressure from the idea that failing this opportunity could mean her past five years had been meaningless. This motivated her to give everything she had, refusing to imagine the possibility of not passing. In the end, she succeeded and described her first emotion as relief, followed by joy. She immediately shared the news with her mother, who had supported her closely throughout her journey.

Her debut with CUTIE STREET took place at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL (TIF), where she experienced a strong sense of shock and realization. Unlike auditions, where performances are judged, she felt that the audience at the festival was simply enjoying the moment. That experience made her truly feel that her audition journey had ended and her idol life had begun.

Looking back on her first year as an idol, she describes it as extremely fast and intense. She feels that she has grown especially in her ability to handle nerves and perform more calmly on stage compared to the beginning. While she still gets nervous, repeated live performances have helped her become more stable and relaxed.

Within the group, she sees herself as a positive and energetic presence, often bringing a bright atmosphere to the members. She values honesty and authenticity deeply, believing that she should remain true to herself both on and off stage, without separating her “idol self” from her personal self.

Aika’s performance style is strongly influenced by her acting background. She has been told that her singing carries emotion well, and she focuses on conveying meaning and feeling through lyrics rather than just technical performance. She also sees CUTIE STREET as a group made up of members with diverse backgrounds and strengths, and she feels that she contributes through emotional expression and “delivering” feelings to the audience.

One of her biggest inspirations comes from the Japanese film Flying Colors, especially its message that “you just have to keep trying.” This philosophy has shaped her approach to challenges, reinforcing her belief that perseverance is the only option when pursuing her dreams.

Her major milestone as an idol so far was her debut stage at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL, which left a lasting impression on her as the moment she truly felt her idol journey had begun.

Looking forward, her goal is to continue growing CUTIE STREET while also expanding into acting again, particularly in dramas and films. One of her biggest dreams is to appear in a morning drama (asadora), something she has long admired. She is currently focused on improving her vocal ability and overall expressive performance, aiming to become an idol whose singing can directly reach and move people’s hearts.

Above all, she values staying true to herself and living with sincerity. She believes that by remaining natural and happy, she can share that happiness with others, allowing her positivity to spread to fans who watch her.
