Yubiningyou (唯美人形) takes their name from 唯美主義 Aestheticism, the 19th century philosophy that placed beauty above morality, practicality, or purpose. Art for art's sake. It's a bold claim for an idol unit, but their MVs make it believable. Beauties of nature (花鳥風月) is the latest example: visually striking, slightly surreal, and just abstract enough that you're never fully sure what you watched, which just leaves you wanting more.
As the title suggests, the song centers on the beauty of nature, which I interpret as being embodied by the two girls, Nana and Mika, who both appear stunning in the MV. The lyrics revolve around themes of sin, love, and "honey," repeatedly emphasizing that once you've experienced it, there is no turning back. The word repeated throughout is mon amour (モナムール), French for "my love." A subtle nod to their theme of Aestheticism which has roots in France. It feels less like a simple spell and more like a curse.
In the video, we see multiple masked figures enjoying themselves, playing games, drinking, and watching the girls perform. As the MV progresses, these figures begin to closely observe them, becoming increasingly captivated by their beauty. Tasting from the honey, so to speak.
At one point, Nana suddenly appears holding a gun, singing “花鳥風月が騒ぎだす,” which suggests that the beauties of nature are beginning to stir, or even spiral out of control. From that moment on, the masked figures lose their agency entirely, becoming fully enchanted by the girls.
They begin to mirror the same dance, as if trapped in a dream of their own choosing, an endless labyrinth of sin. The lyrics say it plainly, "don't wake from the dream." Nobody here is trying to escape. I sure wouldn’t want to escape.
As expected from Yubiningyou this song is layered in both lyrics and presentation, the clean vocals from both girls are on point again. How the longer tones jump over to the pa pa ya pa part is well crafted and it has been stuck in my head ever since hearing it for the first time. The dance is also fun, it has the same doll like vibe they always bring, and I would love to see how it looks in real life (please fly me over, Yubiningyou!!).
But don’t just listen to me, go watch it for yourself. And as Nana asks in the tweet above, please share clips and comment your thoughts for them. They deserve all the attention.
