A new crowdfunding campaign in Japan is aiming to bring a unique idol-led television drama to a wider audience, with the experimental project featuring an all-idol cast and grassroots fan support at its core.

Campfire Campaign

The campaign centers on a drama starring the alternative idol group You'll Melt More! (ゆるめるモ!), alongside a broad lineup of additional idol performers. Organizers say the initiative is intended not only to finance production, but also to build a community of supporters who can help expand the show’s reach beyond its initial broadcast.

Unlike conventional television productions, the project emphasizes a cast composed entirely of idols, many of whom are taking on acting roles for the first time. Participants have acknowledged the challenge, describing both uncertainty and excitement as they step outside their usual performance roles. The production presents this inexperience as part of its appeal, aiming to deliver a more raw and personality-driven viewing experience.

The drama is being produced by Yuki Takeshita, known for a range of late-night and independent television projects focused on idol and subculture themes. His previous work places the project within a niche of low-budget, creator-driven productions that blend experimental storytelling with emerging talent.

Filming is scheduled for late May, with a planned broadcast on June 25 via Chiba Television Broadcasting as part of the program “Cast Watch.” Additional screenings, promotional events, and a DVD release are expected to follow in the autumn.

The campaign operates under an “all-in” crowdfunding model, meaning the project will proceed regardless of whether its funding target is met. Contributions will be used for production, promotion, and the creation of supporter rewards. These range from signed merchandise and behind-the-scenes content to higher-tier options such as on-screen extra roles, end-credit acknowledgements, and participation in related events.

Organizers say that, depending on the level of support, the project could expand into further promotional efforts and potential sequel productions.

Be sure to support this project if you want more to come!
